Some say it’s just a story. Others aren’t so sure. Depends who you ask.
Can one be swallowed by a whale?
They say beneath rolling waves lay something else, something daylight has never been cast upon. There’s life in there, figures shaped by tide, carried on the swell of something unseen - you’ve heard the bell, the Captain, the call, the orchestra that went under singing - they’re all still in there.
These are all old stories, they grow no younger, but no less worth telling.
Now then, you’ll only ever know if you find the ones who know the way - there’s light in the whales dark, follow the compass without North, stay vigil and trust the vessel is blessed.
For the truth of it is, you may be swallowed whole, but you’ll never be truly lost.
Erwyd
The curator of comedy and curios
Roll up, roll up for Russel 'Erwyd' Erwood, Conwy’s longest-serving official jester and a master of mirth for over a decade! You may have glimpsed him juggling jokes at Conwy Castle, conjuring chuckles at Plas Mawr, or dazzling crowds at Greenwood Family Park.
Having trained in circus from the age of 14, Erwyd honed his craft under a Cirque du Soleil alum and an ex-postman with a flair for the fabulous. His career has taken him from castle courtyards to television screens, rubbing elbows with legends like Sir Terry Wogan (and urinals with Sylvester McCoy – long story).
Seid & Jerry
Rollerskates and Perch
Seid Siraj is a professional circus artist specialising in rolling skate and perch pole acts. Over his career, he has performed internationally in several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Dubai, New Caledonia, and Tahiti. He is currently based in the UK and performing this year with the Peregrine Circus.
Jerry is a circus artist from Ethiopia. She has practiced various acts in Ethiopia, including acrobatics, carpet acts, roller-skating acts, and perch pole acts. She has performed in various countries, including Germany, France, and Turkey. She is currently performing her show in the United Kingdom with the Peregrine Circus, which features a roller-skating act and a perch pole act. Being a circus artist is a great honour for her; it is a place where she learns many skills and gains different experiences.
The Gents
Teeterboard Acrobatic Act
Dynamic, daring, and endlessly entertaining; The Gents are a three-man teeterboard acrobatic act from Hungary with over a decade of experience captivating audiences around the world.
Throughout their career, The Gents have performed on some of Europe’s most prestigious stages, including Krystallpalast Varieté, Wintergarten Varieté, Blackpool Tower Circus, Budapest Varieté, Circus Roncalli – ROCK Christmas Circus, and Roncalli Apollo Varieté – Rock Reloaded, the spectacular 10-year rock show production.
With breathtaking jumps, impeccable precision, and a signature touch of class, The Gents bring a fresh, high-energy twist to the timeless art of acrobatics. Their performances combine technical mastery with style, humor, and explosive energy that keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
Sukey
Contortion & Trapeze
Sukey Calladine is a multi-disciplinary circus performer based in Kent with ten years of experience. She trained abroad at Cirko Vertigo (Italy) gaining a diploma in contemporary circus arts and specialising in dance trapeze.
She will be performing dance trapeze and Contortion with Peregrine Circus this year!
Sukey also performs highly skilled aerial acts including aerial hoop, silks and hula hoops. She has a passion for teaching circus skills to all ages and abilities and has taught in several circus schools accross London and Kent. Sukey has travelled across the country, and internationally performing in touring theatre shows, corporate events and traditional circus.
Vik
Ariel Net & Ariel Rope
Viktória Murtinova started with circus as an adult after watching a promenade performance in her home town, in the exotic country of Slovakia.
She's now performed for multiple companies big and small during the last 12 years, doing both aerial work and singing.
Vik is based in the mighty village of Bontuchel (Denbighshire) and can regularly be spotted in the local woods, her natural habitat.
Apart from performing in the show, Vik is also the official company lángos maker and the keeper of Oscar (the vicious guard hound and company's emotional support).
The Ship's Orchestra
Seth Bye is a composer and multi-instrumentalist specialising in traditional music styles. As Musical Director for Peregrine Circus, he brings together musicians and instruments from across worlds - weaving melodies that rise and fall like the sea itself. Seth is often known for his 870-mile foot-powered tour of the Wales Coast Path with Filkin’s Drift—an endeavor described by Mark Radcliffe as a 'truly epic journey' (BBC Radio 2). You can also catch him in a duo with Cori Smith, a fellow Peregrine musician. Check out Tightrope Moon.
Cori Smith (BBC Young Musician of the Year finalist 2019) is a viola player and composer from
the North of England. Introduced to folk music through playing in the National Youth Folk Ensemble
(NYFE) under Sam Sweeney’s direction, she’s gone on to play and write in many different
constellations, performing at folk festivals and venues across the UK and Sweden.
Michael Chance is an artist who also plays the drums. Or he's a musician who paints.
He's never quite made up his mind. He's usually found roaming the waterways of East London
or the perilous wilds of Hertfordshire aboard his narrowboat. With Cori he plays in a post-folk
band called Pudding. When not behind the kit at Peregrine he also helps to paint the set, design
the posters and make the programme.
